First of all, I would like to assure you that I am not fanatical, or without my full faculties. I am just like any other “average Joe” you share this world with. However, I am an “average Joe” with many questions and searching for answers in tumultuous times.
How many times have I made the off-handed remark, “It’s not nice to mess with Mother Nature?” How absolutely ridiculous and childish that statement becomes when with a heavy heart and numbing astonishment the devastating events that Japan has, is, and will have to endure is revealed on every news broadcast. It began the 11th of March, when the largest recorded earthquake in over 100 years (measuring 9 on the Richter Scale) struck Japan. The Sendai earthquake was followed by a Tsunami roughly 23 feet high engulfed Japan’s northeast coast. As of March 17th the confirmed death toll reached 5,429, with 9,594 missing. The devastation continues as the aftermath of these events have resulted in causing serious damage to the Dai-Ichi Nuclear Plant. Heaven only knows what the future holds for those fearful numbers who are caught within the shadows of the nuclear crisis as it continues to unfold.
Once the initial shock from the news of this catastrophic triple play began to subside, I found myself recalling some of the numerous other events that have happened in the not so recent past such as; hurricanes, mudslides, and floods just for starters. If that isn’t scary enough yet, don’t forget the problems arising from global warming,, economic decline, diseases once thought conquered resurging more virulent and strain-resistant than ever before.
No longer able to ignore the ongoing list of events, questions begin to fill my mind. Are these events all coincidental? Are they the result of man’s progress and/or his carelessness? Is our planet beginning to realize it eventual demise? Is Armageddon (the end of times) beginning to happen? Whatever the answer(s), what part do I have in all of this? Am I the only person who questions the escalating accumulation of events that have been happening?
I continue to wonder and would truly be interested to hear the thoughts and ideas others would be willing to share regarding these escalating events that seem to be besieging our world. Would anyone be willing to share?
Wow talk about food for thought. LOL first off, when you mess with mother nature ahe may just mess back. We our progressing very far very fast neglecting sometimes the saftey percautions needed to protect ourselves and mother earth. I have one question...When will we learn to take our time and enloy what we have before the progression becomes exstinct.
ReplyDeleteCould it be that man, in response for always wanting more and wanting it faster, cause their own demise? Have we become so self-absorbed that we can't "see the forest for the trees?" Have we become as spoiled children who cannot differentiate between needs and wants? Can we (both as individuals or en masse) do anything to change our direction?
